ComETS 2009 Symposium

The newly formed ComETS community at Iowa State University held its first symposium which consisted of four parts:

  • Keynote by George Siemens, University of Manitoba, The Impact of Connectivism and Networked Learning.

    Siemens is a writer, speaker, and researcher on learning, networks, technology and organizational effectiveness in digital environments. He is the author of Knowing Knowledge, an exploration of how the context and characteristics of knowledge have changed and what it means to organizations today. Siemens is also Associate Director, Research and Development, with the Learning Technologies Centre at University of Manitoba. Find out more about George Siemens.

 

  • Affinity, or special interest groups met to begin discussions about several different topics, including

    • Learning environments / course management systems
    • clickers
    • podcasting
       
  • Short "Lightning Strike" presentations from members of the ISU community.

  • A panel of current students gathered to tell us about their expectations regarding technology on campus

All in all the symposium was a great success that brought together faculty, staff and administrators from around the ISU community to interface and discuss educational technology issues while networking to create opportunities for future experimentation and collaboration.
